Title: Strategic management of Otitis externa: diagnosis and drug therapy in the dog and cat
            Language: German

Abstract: Otitis externa (O. E.) is extremely frequent in dogs and less frequent in cats.
The diagnosis encompasses a conservative otitis description. The therapeutic plan always
includes primary factors (e. G. Very often allergies) and often also perpetuating factors.
If required, predisposing factors must also be considered. Those factors are outlined in
tables, shortfalls are discussed. A therapeutic plan with respect to microorganisms that
perpetuate the ear-infection is developed. O. E. Has four possible scenarios: without
infection, perpetuated by bacteria, yeast infection, and mixed bacteria and yeast infections.
Medication should fight the microbial spectrum. An alkaline pH-based ear-cleanser is
introduced. If used before antibiotic treatment, the antibiotics will eliminate bacteria more
efficiently. Resistance against antibiotics will decrease if antibiotics are applied locally.
If followed strictly, diagnostic/therapeutic plans will help to decrease chronic O. E
            significantly.
